Luca Filippi did send a clear message to his rivals: the SuperNova driver was the quickest by a long way in the first Free Practice session in Hungaroring, leaving his nearest follower, Adrien Tambay, nearly 7 tenths adrift. On a track that was getting cleaner lap after lap, Filippi managed to stay ahead for nearly the whole session.
Behind him Tambay seemed very calm anyway, confident of his team’s job and of the work plan agreed with his engineers at DAMS. Behind them Venturini confirmed that he’s in great shape as in Monza with a 1’36”598, ahead of a steadily improving Rio Haryanto. The Indonesian took part in two days of GP3 testing on this track during last week and this surely helped him, but his confidence with the Auto GP car is increasing session after session and this can be seen clearly in his laptime progression.
Just inches from Rio was Fabrizio Crestani, closing the top 5 with the first Lazarus car ahead of a very tight bunch. Behind him, indeed, Kevin Ceccon, Bruno Mendez, Samuele Buttarelli and Fabio Onidi were packed in just 0”150, with Onidi suffering a spin in the first laps of the session. Closing the top 10 was a Campos Racing car, the one driven by Marco Barba.Luca Filippi: “We are already ok with the setup, so this allowed me to push really hard from the beginning. Furthermore I have much more experience than the others on this track, so I don’t think it’s going to be easy.
