EF01 HITS THE FAMOUS LE MANS CIRCUIT ON 11 JUNE 2011 PART OF THE ‘LE MANS LOOKING TO THE FUTURE’ EVENT
Formulec’s EF01 single seater will be on display at the ‘Le Mans Looking to the Future’ exhibition from Wednesday 8 June before completing two timed demonstration laps of the world famous Circuit de la Sarthe. Motorsport’s first fully electrically-powered single seater has been designed to meet high levels of performance comparable to that of a Formula 3 car. Thanks to 220KW of power (300bhp), the EF01 accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3 seconds and will go on to a top speed of close to 250km/h.
During the event to be staged at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, ten innovative cars with sporting potential will each take to the full 13.629km-long circuit, beginning on Thursday between 21.15 and 21.35 and then on Saturday between 12.10 and 12.30. The entire collection will also be displayed at the 24 Hours Village from Wednesday until Sunday at 16.00.
Along with its innovative counterparts, the EF01, driven at Le Mans by Jonathan Cochet, will once again demonstrate its capacity to combine speed and efficiency whilst respecting the environment and championing sustainable development. Recent testing focused on fine-tuning the single seater’s Energy Recovery System which will feature in the one-make championship expected as early as 2012.It will be a great honour for the EF01 to run at the famous La Sarthe circuit, even if the single seater’s characteristics are not ideally suited to this endurance racing-specific layout.
Formulec and the EF01 are the pioneers of tomorrow’s motorsport. Together, they have reasserted the role of major car racing events as a promotional and technological showroom where performance, innovation and spectacle are closely linked to the pursuit of excellence. In development since 2008, the EF01 has benefited from Segula Technologies Automotive’s engineering expertise, aerodynamic studies by the Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One Team and the experience of ART Grand Prix in testing and development carried out by drivers Alexandre Prémat, Jules Bianchi and Jonathan Cochet. Michelin has conducted specific optimisation tyre studies, FCI’s know-how has been utilised in the essential area of cables and connectors, while Dekra’s involvement in safety and control is seen as an utmost priority. The EF01 has also benefited from the input of Siemens (engines), SAFT (batteries), Hewland (gearboxes), OZ (wheels), Motul Systems (lubricants) 2D (acquisition systems) and FAAR Industry (electronic).
