EuroSpeedway Lausitz in Germany hosts the fourth round of the 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup next Saturday, 18th June - a race of huge importance for 19-year-old Daniel Lloyd as he aims to battle back from a robust weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria last time out.
Racing in Europe for the first time this year, the Huddersfield driver got his season off to a fantastic start at Hockenheim during the opening round with pole position on his debut and a well deserved runner-up spot in the race itself. Showing similarly outstanding pace in Austria last weekend, the first double-header event of the year, Daniel unfortunately slipped down from second to eighth position in the championship standings after being forced to mount recovery drives in each encounter.
Knocked out of second place in round two, the British racer had to fight back from the tail of the field but a stirring performance not only lifted him into a competitive 13th place, he also posted the fastest lap in the process. During round three - the first race of the season in which competitors were eligible to earn full points - another fight through was required, this time finishing in eighth.
"I'm still disappointed about how everything turned out at the Red Bull Ring", said Daniel, "We've got to stay positive though, I did a good job and our pace was good. The rest of it was out of our control, I couldn't do much about being knocked off so I just had to come back through as best I could."
EuroSpeedway Laustiz is another unique and brand new challenge for Daniel but as he's shown during the first two race meetings of the season, he's taken no time at all to learn the tracks and be instantly competitive in practice and qualifying. Racing is undoubtedly Daniel's key strength though and he's looking forward to experiencing the 3.48 kilometre track, situated in Brandenburg's lower Lausitz region, for the first time. If he can qualify on the first couple of rows of the grid, and have some better fortune than at the Red Bull Ring, he stands a great chance of being back on the podium to move further up the championship table.
Daniel added: "I'm looking forward to getting back out there and hoping for a good result at Lausitz. Every track has been new to us so far but it's not been a problem, we were quick at Hockenheim and in Austria so I'm sure we can be next weekend too. I'm definitely aiming for a podium."
Following the usual half-hour practice session on Friday, 17th June, qualifying for round four of the 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup will take place at 12.00 (local time) on Saturday, 18th June, with the race itself getting underway at 17.10. Digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV is scheduled to broadcast round four live from 16.00 UK time.
