LAKESIDE boss Jon Cook says his team have displayed exactly the response required to a previous indifferent spell.Cook was unhappy with Elite League results in the build-up to the Hammers’ KO Cup tie with Birmingham, but home and away wins over the Brummies have provided a big boost to the Purfleet club.Cook said: “We really couldn't have had a better reaction from the team after a break during which the pressure was on to come back with a big performance. Every rider gave their all and showed exactly why we, and they, wanted to be Hammers this year. “Our opening heats up at Birmingham last Thursday set the tone for the ties and it would be churlish of me to continue to talk of team changes, subject to Adam Shields’ injury, after the boys have shown that sort of commitment. We asked for a big response and that’s exactly what we got.”

GLASGOW took the local derby honours with a 12-point aggregate win over rivals Edinburgh in the weekend Super Cup.Tigers co-promoter Stewart Dickson was not satisfied with the display in the first leg at Armadale, but after a 58-35 win at home two days later he had high praise for his riders.Dickson said: “If Friday was one of our worst showings of the season then this was one of our best. From start to finish the lads dug in, both in the pits and and on the track and we were completely dominant. “This was the kind of performance that we want each and every week and to do it in a derby fixture is just perfect. It gives us a great hunger and a desire to get our hands on more trophies and this hopefully will be the first of many in the season ahead.”
