Mixed fortune for Atech CRS GP in German GP3

The Atech CRS GP team suffered mixed fortunes in the latest rounds of the GP3 Series at Nurburgring this weekend. Swiss Zoel Amberg took his best qualifying of the season to post the tenth fastest lap in a session in which the 30-car grid was covered by just nine tenths of a second.

However in the race, the 20 year-old fell foul to the regulations and suffered a stop-go penalty for the team being on the grid three minutes before the start, as they attempted to fix an electrical problem. Briton Nick Yelloly, despite suffering with a broken front wing in race two, took ninth, after a strong recovery from 16th on the grid.

While Marlon Stockinger was left frustrated with two non-finishes. In race one, the Swiss-Filipino was eliminated after a collision with another car. His non-finish meant he would take up the last spot on the grid, but as the 20 year-old completed the formation lap to line up for the start, his clutch failed, causing instant retirement.

Nick Yelloly: “After the strong performance at Silverstone, we came here confident of another strong result but once again the difficult weather conditions played a major role. In race one we started on slicks and chose to change to wets, which we felt was the right decision, and which I thought could have netted us a podium. Today we started 16th and made a good start, but I was hit early on by another car, which damaged my front wing and suspension preventing me from making much progress. However I’m pretty happy to have managed to salvage ninth.”

Zoel Amberg: “After the good qualifying it was a shame not to get a good result, the car was great, particularly in the dry, and I was hopeful of a top eight position. In race one though I had an electrical problem on the grid, which the team tried to solve, but I received a drive-through penalty. In race two, the car was great again in the dry but towards the end as the conditions became very difficult and slippery, I suffered with oversteer. It’s positive though that we got a good set-up in the dry and hopefully we can continue to improve that going into the next race.”

Marlon Stockinger: “This weekend was another where tyre choice paid an important role and people had to gamble on which was the right one. In the opening race I had a good start and was running well but then I was hit by another car, which effectively ruined my whole weekend. I was forced to start from the back but as I came onto the grid for the start the clutch went, so that was the end of the race for me.”
