"A pair of podiums taken away due to incidents and caution periods"
Traveling north of the border, Robert La Rocca and his Auto Errante-HP Tech Motorsport squad would look for race wins and podium results at rounds nine and ten of the Pro F2000 Championship Series at Mosport International Raceway. Having never competed at one of the most famous facilities in Canada, La Rocca was up to speed early and was consistently in the top three on the time charts.
"It was my first time at the Mosport facility and it instantly became one of my favorite tracks," expressed La Rocca after the weekend was complete. "The Ralph Firman Racecar was fast right off the trailer but some bad racing luck ruined any chances of a podium result."
Looking to challenge for the top spot for round nine, La Rocca would run out of fuel on his final and probably quickest qualifying lap and would be forced to sit on his previous best that would line him up fourth. Starting the race from outside of the second row, the Venezuelan driver looked to move forward at the drop of the green flag but a pair of lengthy caution periods and a reduction in race laps would force La Rocca to hold station.
La Rocca continued, "It was very unfortunate that we were not able to run a lot of green flag laps and that the race was cut short. I think we had a great car and were going to be able to challenge for the win but had to settle for fourth."
On to round ten, the Auto Errante-HP Tech Motorsport team was looking for redemption in qualifying from their previous day's results. Entering turn two on his fast lap, La Rocca spun off the race course due to oil that had been leaked from another car only seconds before he arrived in the corner.
La Rocca added, "Turn two is one of the fastest corners at Mosport and we are doing between 110 and 120 miles per hour. I was very lucky to not hit the wall but did have to come to thepits to change tires that had been severly flat spotted."
Putting on used tires and reentering the track, La Rocca was able to turn the third quickest time of the qualifying session and would start the second event of the weekend from inside the second row.
Disaster would strike at the drop of the green flag as La Rocca would be involved in an incident in the first corner. Looking to stay on the rear wing of the car in front of him, La Rocca was hit by the outside polesitter and damage to his front wing and left front suspension would force him to retire from the race.
Robert La Rocca and the Pro F2000 Championship Series will enjoy a long hiatus from racing action as the next event will take place September 16-17 at the Lime Rock Park facility in Lakeville, Conneticut. With the extended delay, La Rocca will take part in the Star Mazda Series test session at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California as he looks to compete in Round Eleven of the series later this season. Competing with Team GDT and Jorge Herrra, La Rocca's current Team Owner and Engineer will accompany him at the test.
