The Kawasaki Superbike Racing Team returns to the UK this forthcoming weekend aiming to put on a good show in front of the British fans when round nine of the World Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone.
Recent performances by riders Joan Lascorz and Tom Sykes have been promising aboard the Paul Bird Motorsport Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10Rs so the pair are hoping for a good showing at the team's second home race of the season, after the earlier round at Donington Park.
Spaniard Lascorz has recorded top ten placings in his last six races so will be looking to continue that run and although he missed out on big points in the previous round at Brno, Yorkshireman Sykes has scored a pair of top five placings in the two previous rounds so is well placed to score his first podium of the season on home turf.
Neither rider has particularly fond memories of last year's inaugural meeting on the revamped 5.9km track whereby Sykes struggled to a best result of 14th place in WSB race one and Lascorz crashed out ending his hopes of the World Supersport Championship.
This year will see the new start and finish area used and teams will be based at the impressive new Silverstone Wing. The following weekend at Brands Hatch, the Kawasaki Superbike Racing team will contest round eight of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship which they have done for the past two seasons. Last year, Tom Sykes won two races aboard the Kawasaki ZX-10R.
Paul Bird, Team Owner: "You want to do well at all rounds but when it's one of your home races, it adds extra significance and after we came so close at Donington Park earlier in the year, the whole team will be hoping we can just get that little bit of luck we need to score a result this weekend. We have made a lot of progress in recent races and both Tom and Joan are riding well so there is no reason why we shouldn't be challenging for podiums at Silverstone. From there we go to Brands Hatch where Tom won two races last year so hopefully we can have a successful BSB meeting whilst getting some more valuable track time for both riders."
The opening race gets underway on Sunday 31st July at 12.00 with race two at 15.30 and British viewers can catch the action live on British Eurosport.
