Front Row Start For Ellinas at World Series Silverstone GP
As the support category for the World Series by Renault event at Silverstone circuit this weekend, Atech Reid GP Formula Renault 2.0 UK drivers posted times to place them comfortably inside the top ten.Due to the revised format to the weekend, the drivers were faced with an unusual qualifying session. Split in half, the 20 minutes were used to decide each drivers first and second race starting positions. The fastest lap deciding the grid for race one followed by the second fastest lap deciding the starting grid for race two, giving all drivers the opportunity to change tyres half way.Cypriot driver Tio Ellinas was the fastest driver by over 4 tenths of a second in practice yesterday but, the changing track conditions and limited track time proved difficult to evolve into a solid qualifying time."I was a bit surprised with my lap time today because I thought it would be better." Tio stated. "But with the time I have had on the circuit this weekend I think I have done pretty well. Starting from grid 3 and then grid 2 is good considering the two drivers that qualified ahead of me for race one are both competing in the Euro Cup and have had a lot more track time this weekend. Overall I am confident that tomorrow in the racing I will find more time and be able to move forward."Jack and Oscar's frustration was evident after the session as the limited time on the circuit proved a hindrance, unable to put all their fastest sectors together. Nonetheless both are optimistic about the racing tomorrow and will be looking to improve on their starting position."I am disappointed in my lap time because I am losing a lot of time through the Club and Vale sections of the circuit. I know I can get better there so I am looking forward to the racing tomorrow. I enjoy charging through the field and think I can do just that." Oscar stated.Jack added " I was pushing hard but made a couple of mistakes on my fastest lap and lost about 3 tenths in one sector. If I had put my lap together I would be starting about 5th instead of 8th so tomorrow I will be working hard. I know the pace is in the car so we will wait and see what happens tomorrow."Encountering a throttle failure in practice yesterday Dan completed only 5 flying laps, considerably less than his competitors. Given the problems faced Dan qualified inside the top ten for the second race."Given the weekend's issues faced I think 10th is a solid starting point." Dan stated "I am defiantly looking forward to the racing now that I have more track time under my belt and I am looking to fight from the off!"The first race is at 9 AM todaywith race two later in the day at 5 PM.
