This weekend’s round 13 &14 of the Formula Renault UK 2.0 championship event at Silverstone circuit was one of high expectations, promises and heartache for Atech Reid GP.
Tio Ellinas was fastest in free practice on Friday by over 4 tenths of a second but however hard he pushed on track today that was not enough. Jack, Oscar & Dan also had their fair share of troubles and finished the weekend with mixed results.
Race one saw Tio Ellinas cross the line in 4th but he was promoted to 3rd taking the final step on the podium, the team’s best result of the weekend.
“It was good to get on the podium today after not such a good qualifying.” Tio stated. “The rest of the weekend did not go so well but we now look forward to the next one.”
Oscar was on a mission in race one, charging through the field, Oscar’s assertive driving saw him move up 3 places from his qualifying grid to cross the line in 7th.
“After a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday I knew that I would be able to improve in the racing. “ Oscar stated. “I got a really good start and moved up 3 places. It was a really fun race. There was a lot of wheel to wheel racing which is always exciting.”
Dan Wells rounded out the top ten whilst clutch issues saw Jack fall back from 8th to finish the race in 12th.
“Today has been a big learning curve.” Dan stated. “After gaining 3 places off the start an on track altercation in race two saw me slip back to 11th.”
The lack of pace and problems from race one carried over into the second. Starting from the front row Tio lost one place in the first turn. As the race progressed the Cypriot driver held his own until mechanical issues hampered any potential progress eventually crossing the finish line in in 5th place (4th in points).
Jack got a brilliant start off the line and moved up to 5th position but as the race progressed lost rear grip and fell back to 7th.
“It has been a frustrating weekend for me but that’s how it goes sometimes.” Jack stated. “We have had mixed results, mechanical problems and now we have to look forward to the next race in Rockingham”
