New Formula Ford single-seater to ne unveiled in Frankfurt

Ford is set to unveil the next generation of Formula Ford single-seater at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

Full details of the new car are being kept secret until the 13 September unveiling on the Ford stand at Frankfurt, but it has been confirmed that the car will make increased use of road car technologies and will be powered by the latest 1.6-litre Ford EcoBoost engine.

Michael Norton, Ford of Europe Motorsport Manager, said: “Everyone within Ford and the worldwide Formula Ford community is so excited that finally we can reveal the future of Formula Ford. the biggest and most significant design overhaul the category has seen in its 44-year history. Since its inception in 1967, Formula Ford has been instrumental in the junior careers of 10 drivers who went on to become Formula 1 World Champions, as well as a host of internationally renowned racers on many other levels of motorsport. The new car will, we believe, add a further chapter of excellence to the Formula Ford story.”

Sam Roach, Manager of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, adds: “The unveiling of the new 2012 EcoBoost Formula Ford will mark the next generation of our illustrious championship. We are all looking forward to introducing the car to our drivers and teams. Enquiries are already coming in from those who share our view that Formula Ford 2012 will be the place to race next year.”
