Mark Bullitt took home his second podium finish of the season on Sunday at Laguna Seca thanks to a season-best second place finish in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama race.
After picking up the hard charger award on Saturday for his run from 16th to seventh, Bullitt was confident heading into his second race of the weekend.
Starting from 10th, he made his way to seventh on the first lap and patiently maintained his position in what was the longest race of the season for the GT3 Cup Challenge field.
While he remained close to the cars in front of him, Bullitt stayed just the right distance away in order to not get caught up in any on track incidents as the cars ahead of him mostly went on to take themselves out of contention.
By the midway mark, the German had made his way to sixth and only a few laps later found himself in fifth when the second place car had to pull off course.
Bullitt gained another spot on a lap 30 restart that put him in fourth and then he quickly found himself in second place following another restart four laps later.
With 10 minutes left in the one hour and 15 minute race, the driver of the #6 Muscle Milk Porsche GT3 Cup Car was closing in on the leader but unfortunately for Bullitt another full course caution came out with five minutes to go because of a car on fire in pit lane.
With only a few minutes left in the timed event, the race ended under yellow and Bullitt, who drove a clean and smart race, gave the team their best result of the weekend and best finish in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama.
Thanks to his performances this weekend, Bullitt has moved up to fourth in the Driver Standings.
Bullitt and the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing team will be back on track in two weeks time for the final rounds of the championship at Road Atlanta.
MUSCLE MILK QUOTES
IMSA GT3 CUP CHALLENGE BY YOKOHAMA DRIVER
Mark Bullitt, driver #6 Muscle Milk Team CytoSport"Like in my first race yesterday, I had another good start and was able to pick up a few positions to move up to seventh on the first lap. I'm used to endurance racing so I knew coming in that I had to be patient because it was a long race for us in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge series. "I was aware of what was going on ahead of me so I just backed off a little bit and the guys in front of me ended up mostly taking themselves out one way or another. "I'm really happy with the weekend we had and with this second place finish. Our Muscle Milk Porsche Cup car was constant and fast and it was just a great weekend overall."
