Triple Formula Renault 2.0 Podium For MP Motorsport At Monza

Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup front-runners MP Motorsportenjoyed a tremendous outing at Monza in Italy over the weekend, 24th/25thSeptember, with British star Jordan King taking a hat-trick of podiumfinishes during the category's final race meeting of 2011.Marking the championship's first ever visit to the world-famous track, theevent was also successful for the Dutch team's other drivers Karl-Oscar Liivand Alexey Chuklin. Estonian youngster Liiv scored fifth and sixth placefinishes in the first and third races while Russian driver Chuklin starredin race two with a sensational top six - his best performance of the seasonso far."It was a fantastic weekend for us", said MP Motorsport team principalSander Dorsman, "Jordan was able to match the pace of (Daniil) Kvyat and(Carlos) Sainz and to be on the podium in all three races was a really greatachievement. Karl-Oscar and Alexey both performed well too, making it a verystrong event for the whole team. It's been great to end the championshipthis way."King, who more regularly competes in the Certina Formula Renault 2.0 UKChampionship, produced inspired pace from the off during free practice onFriday, 23rd September, and looked a certainty to add to the Formula Renault2.0 Northern European Cup podium he achieved at Most last month.Quickly getting up to the pace of Red Bull Junior drivers Kvyat and Sainz,the young Briton headed into qualifying in confident mood and sensationallysecured pole position for the first race with a time of 1m50.835 seconds(188.16 km/h). Liiv was also rapid, qualifying sixth fastest with a timejust 0.7 seconds shy of King's, while Chuklin impressed with a top 12performance.During race one on Saturday, 24th September, King took the lead immediatelybut Kvyat managed to make his way past on lap two prior to a Safety Carperiod. When racing resumed MP Motorsport's lead driver chased Kvyat hardand piled on the pressure but he had to settle for a, nonetheless great,second place, just 0.7 seconds adrift at the chequered flag after 13 laps.Liiv raced through to a highly competitive fifth place finish, ending theencounter only a couple of seconds shy of the podium battle, while Chuklintook the flag in 15th position after not quite being able to capitalise onhis strong qualifying run. In terms of laps times, King's best was withinjust 0.031 seconds of the quickest of all - underlining the performance ofMP Motorsport at Monza.Race two on Sunday, 25th September, began with King on the front row insecond place after another terrific run in the second qualifying session -just 0.2 seconds away from another pole position - with Liiv ninth fastestand Chuklin an improved 11th.Managing to overcome Stoffel Vandoorne for second position early on, Kingwas pushed back to third by Sainz on lap five but he wasn't about to give upthat easily and fought back brilliantly to retake the place from theSpaniard on the eighth tour. Unfortunately, Sainz once again grabbed secondon lap 10 and so King had to settle for third.Chuklin delivered by far one of his most competitive outings sincegraduating to Formula Renault with an outstanding drive to sixth place.Working his way through the order well, the Russian confirmed hisever-improving pace and racecraft with a deservedly strong result.Misfortune struck Liiv though a couple of laps from the finish when he wasforced into retirement when running fifth.For the third and final outing on Sunday afternoon, Estonian racer Liiv hada great chance to bounce back from his race two disappointment by lining upon the front row of the 'reverse' grid. In the end, he had to settle forsixth position but did set the third fastest lap of the race with a time of1m51.493 seconds (184.62mph).King fought his way through into second, from fifth on the grid, but wasshuffled back to third by Kvyat in the end. Chuklin, meanwhile, capped offan impressively strong weekend with a top 12 result from 15th on the grid.Next for MP Motorsport is the final event of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0Championship just a fortnight from now over the weekend 8th/9th October atthe Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.
