The 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship returns to Brands Hatch this weekend for what will be the penultimate event of the season and Team Aon drivers Tom Chilton, Tom Onslow-Cole and Andy Neate will be hoping to have a strong weekend around the Kent circuit – which has provided great results for the team in the past. The 2011 season got underway back in May at Brands Hatch and saw Team Aon’s Chilton navigate his brand new Global Ford Focus onto the podium during the first race of the year. Since then the car has gone on to take a pole position and win in his hands. In 2010 Chilton and Onslow-Cole dominated around the circuit, in Team Aon machinery, with each taking a win and Chilton smashing the qualifying record. A new car for this season has seen the Team Aon squad and drivers developing it throughout race weekends, this in itself has brought challenges such as those seen last time out at Rockingham. Extra ballast coupled with collisions and mechanical problems throughout all three races of the weekend unfortunately meant that Chilton, Onslow-Cole and Neate were not able to capitalise on Knockhill’s success, despite looking strong through free practice. The 2.30 mile Brands Hatch circuit is both Chilton and Onslow-Cole’s local track. Chilton was born and still lives in Reigate while Onslow-Cole hails from Kingston-Upon-Thames – this strong local knowledge, and past success, will help both drivers throughout the weekend. Having won here last year, and still holding the qualifying lap record, Tom Chilton said, “I’m feeling confident going into Brands Hatch. It’s my local track and I always seem to do well here. I still hold the qualifying lap record which is a nice stat!“We found a couple of issues after Rockingham which we feel killed the cars performance a little bit so we’ve worked on that however with no testing we’re not sure where our pace is until we get to Brands Hatch. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to put the car right up there this weekend.”
