Hand leads team 1, 2, 3 and Barlow wins Junior title again
Strawberry Racing’s Junior and Senior Max drivers enjoyed a successful Rotax Cup at Three Sisters yesterday (25 October), with five of their seven drivers on the podium.
Junior star Jack Barlow repeated his 2010 success with a dominant performance, whilst his team-mate Rob Holland was in the hunt throughout the 12 lap final and was pleased to secure 3rd place.
“Jack got away from the pack right from the start,” explained Strawberry team chief, Warwick Ringham. “Rob made a couple of mistakes and had to fight back. Jack had one lap where he hit a couple of the kerbs but he quickly settled down and traded similar lap times with Olly Myers (in 2nd). It’s very hard to get away at Three Sisters and lead the race from start to finish but that’s exactly what he did. It was impressive.”
Like Barlow and Holland, Myers used a Racer EVRR chassis and Cream Racing Engines-prepared motor to earn his trophy.
In the senior encounter, Ash Hand, Andy King and Jack Marshall heeded Dave ‘Dodge’ Gregory’s pre-race instructions to great effect.
“I had a chat with the lads beforehand and told them if you hit the front and battle, you’ll be caught. My advice was to let the quickest driver take the lead and not to block or defend if one of the others thought they were faster. Initially, Ash was overtaken by Andy but he passed him cleanly to lead again and once the race had found its rhythm, all three drove away from the pack. It was an excellent result and for all the boys, it’s good preparation for the season closer back at Three Sisters in October (15/16).”
In the Mini Max class, a heavy crash on Saturday prompted Harry Webb to withdraw from participating in Sunday’s action, leaving Zhou Guan Yu – AKA ‘Joe’ – as Strawberry’s sole representative. Despite his inexperience of racing in Britain and having never been to Three Sisters before, he claimed a creditable fifth place overall.
