Silverstone to host five-way BTCC title decider on 16 Octobe

- 2011 champion to be crowned at Silverstone- Kids go free*The DUNLOP MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone, in association with Honda Racing (BTCC), heads to the Northamptonshire circuit on 15-16 October for the final round of another nail-biting season. The stakes couldn’t be higher as only one driver will walk away from Silverstone crowned as the 2011 champion. As it stands an unprecedented five drivers are still in with a chance of winning the title, and with three BTCC races on Sunday, there are still plenty of championship-deciding points up for grabs. Honda Racing Team’s Matt Neal currently leads the championship with 225 points. Neal’s team-mate Gordon Sheddon and Jason Plato (Silverline Chevrolet) are joint second with 220 points. Rounding off the quintet of title hopefuls are Mat Jackson (Airwaves Racing) and James Nash (888 Racing with Colin Contractors), with 189 and 181 points respectively.  All of the action will unfold on Silverstone’s 1.6 mile National Circuit, which will provide plenty of overtaking and close, bumper-to-bumper racing in all three BTCC races on the final Sunday of the season. In addition to the BTCC races, a further seven support races will be taking to the track, while a host of off-track entertainment will be on offer for younger members of the family. Coupled with Silverstone’s kids go free* pricing policy, the Northamptonshire circuit is expecting a bumper crowd.Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said, “The British Touring Car Championship always goes down to the wire, and to have five drivers still in with a chance of winning the title is fantastic. Each driver knows it’s their last chance to secure crucial points and, ultimately, be crowned 2011 champion, so we’re expecting some fiercely contested racing and a tense atmosphere around the paddock. The fans are in for a real treat.”Tickets for the final round of the DUNLOP MSA British Touring Car Championship, taking place at Silverstone on 15 – 16 October, are available from £17 in advance.
