Luyendyk Jr. To Run SpeedSource No. 9 Ford Multimatic in Rolex 24

Arie Luyendyk Jr., Indy Racing League competitor and son of two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk, will pilot the No. 9 Ford Multimatic Daytona Prototype for SpeedSource in the upcoming Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 29 - February 1. Luyendyk Jr. will be teamed with veteran endurance racers Mike Borkowski and Paul Mears Jr., with a fourth driver for the No. 9 team being announced in the near future.

SpeedSource has had many years of success in endurance racing, particularlyin Mazda's, but 2004 will be the team's first attempt in the Rolex 24 AtDaytona in the Daytona Prototype machines, the premier class in the GrandAmerican Rolex Sports Car Series

"I am very excited about the chance to compete in the Rolex 24 At Daytona,"said Luyendyk Jr. "This will be the SpeedSource team's first run at thatprestigious race in the Daytona Prototypes class, so I'm hoping I can run astrong race for them in their inaugural attempt in that class. SpeedSourceand owner Sylvain Tremblay have given me a great opportunity to show mytalents in the greatest endurance race in America. I can't wait to get ontrack and start working with my new teammates, Mike (Borkowski) and Paul(Mears Jr.)."

SpeedSource owner Sylvain Tremblay assembled a few veterans to partner with22-year-old Luyendyk Jr. for this mammoth event. "We're excited to have Arieon our team for this prestigious race," stated Tremblay. "It's great that wewere able to put Arie Jr. with seasoned veterans like (Mike) Borkowski and(Paul) Mears Jr. in the No. 9 car. A good finish will be expected by theentire team with the talent and experience we have in that car. It's goingto be fun to watch."

Luyendyk Jr. is participating in this weekend's pre-season testing for theRolex 24 At Daytona at Daytona International Speedway. Fans can watch thisweekend's pre-season testing free of charge from the Oldfield Towergrandstands. The grandstands can be accessed through the lobby of DAYTONAUSA.
