The seven day test at Jerez continued on Saturday with both BMW WilliamsF1 Team drivers, Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gené, making the most of the ideal weather conditions. On the fifth day of testing at the Spanish track, Ralf, who was once again concentrating on development work of the new WilliamsF1 BMW FW26, worked on mechanical set ups before performing some tyre evaluation work for Michelin in the afternoon. Despite a minor gearbox problem, the German completed 87 laps. Shortly before midday, Ralf posted his fastest time of the session, 1:16.110.
Marc, driving the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25B, completed the race weekend simulation he began on Friday. The BMW P84 engine completed the 800 kilometre test without experiencing any problems. In the afternoon, the Spaniard, who posted a fastest time of 1:16.245, focused on tyre compound testing.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1): “Ralf and Marc continued the testing schedule with Ralf concentrating on set up work of the FW26 this morning prior to completing some tyre testing and electronics work this afternoon. Despite the gearbox problem we encountered, Ralf is happy with the new car but has identified some areas which still require improvements. Marc successfully completed the endurance run he started yesterday in the FW25B and finished the session in the FW25A performing some electronics and systems work.”
Both drivers continue testing today
