Headstart will provide help and support for young drivers by supplying them with the highest quality head protection and race wear, along with a mentoring programme that will see experienced drivers regularly available to offer advice. The young drivers will also be given guidance by experts who are able to assist in other aspects of their career development. Professionals such as a financial advisor, leading journalist and business, marketing and sponsorship experts will be invited to join the scheme, ensuring the mentoring covers both on and off-track activities.
James Birch, managing director, GPR, introduced Headstart by saying “This is a great opportunity for any young driver. Not only will they receive Arai helmets and other benefits from GPR, this initiative goes a step further and they will have access to a number of professionals who can offer advice on any aspect of their career. It’s also a great way to give something back and help develop the motor racing talent of the future.”
Ferry Brouwer, managing director, Arai Helmet Europe, is delighted with the initiative, “When GPR came to us and suggested Headstart, we knew it was something Arai should be involved in. Arai is constantly developing its products to remain a leading supplier of safety equipment and this pan-European initiative will provide young drivers with the highest quality head protection, which can only be positive.”
Jason Plato, SEAT BTCC driver and a driver selected to be in the Headstart initiative understands how important industry support is when beginning a career in motor racing. “When I was starting out, there was nothing like this. Headstart is a groundbreaking initiative. It’s hard for any young driver, but help and advice on financial planning, seeking sponsorship and dealing with the media would have been invaluable for me and I’m sure it will be for those involved in Headstart.”
Alex Lloyd, McLaren Young Driver of the Year is one of the young drivers who will benefit from Headstart, “Motor sport is a tough environment and any professionals who can assist or advise me can only be beneficial, especially in the long-term. Arai’s role in this initiative is key, I don’t think anyone should ever underestimate how important it is to have the highest quality head protection, and Arai certainly produces the best a driver can wear.”
GPR and Arai Helmet Europe are leaders in the provision of head protection and race wear, who are demonstrating their commitment not only to provide the highest quality products and services, but also to invest in the future of motor sport.
