Jason Workman starts the 2004 season with his debut appearance in the "Rolex 24" at Daytona International Speedway on January 31 through February 1. The demanding race, one of the toughest in the world, kicks off Daytona SpeedWeeks 2004 at the legendary speedway.
Workman will pilot the #80 G&W Motorsports BMW powered Picchio with co-drivers Steve and Danny Marshall of Virginia, Fabio Spatafora of Italy and Hugo Guenette of Montreal, Quebec Canada . The event marks Workman’s first appearance in the 24-hour race, his first professional event at Daytona International Speedway and his first appearance in the Grand-Am Daytona Prototype division. It is a challenge that Workman is eager to undertake.
"I am excited to race the Rolex 24. The longest race I have competed in to date was the Petit LeMans last year. Realizing the difficulty of that 10-hour event, the scale of a 24-hour race is all the more daunting and challenging. I can’t wait to get started! Besides, I need a new wristwatch and that Rolex will look good on me!" quipped Workman. (The winner of the Daytona 24 will win a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Daytona Cosmograph watch) Workman added, "Whoever takes the Rolex watch home will certainly earn it. This event is one tough race. With the help of my co-drivers and the support of the crew, we have a good plan to take home that prized trophy."
Joining Workman will be Tony Dowe, who will assist the young and talented Workman capitalize on his impressive race career to date. Dowe engineered Workman’s entry last year in the LMP675 division of the American LeMans Series. "Having Tony on my side adds another crucial element in our racing program for 2004 I look forward to being the primary recipient of his expertise and guidance throughout the coming season," added Workman.
"We are pleased to have someone with Jason’s experience in our car at the Daytona 24-hour event. I think that we will see some attrition from the close racing and number of entries, and our goal is to finish and finish well. To do that we need steady and dependable drivers and some good preparation which we have both", said G&W Motorsports President Cole Scrogham.
