Pat Symonds: R24 - “The best car in my career”

The Executive Director of Engineering talks about the R24 and the season ahead.

In a certain sense, the development of the R24 will take us back to 2002. The ‘Heathrow’ style testing has been banned for this year.

Therefore, we have therefore decided upon a programme of 36 days of testing, with sessions between each race, with two cars for the majority of the time.

The rules allow 48 days, but last year taught us to get the best value for money for our time on track: why waste the testing budget if we can use this money better elsewhere?

Saturday qualifying will mean we have to review our working methods in order to be able to react between the two sessions.

Finally, I must say I have never seen as well-designed a car as the R24. Our sights are set high, but we have the means to achieve them.
