ALMS - BAM! - Rockenfeller for Sebring

The 12 Hours of Sebring is slated for March 20 on the 3.7-mile Sebring International Raceway road course in Sebring, Fla. Baron hopes BAM! will help Rockenfeller add another first to his resume. "I'm absolutely delighted to be driving with Mike again and it's great to have a Porsche works driver in the team's first outing," Baron said. "Last time he drove with us, he had 15 firsts, so hopefully we'll get him his first ALMS win this time. Based on his driving style and professionalism at Atlanta, he has tremendous potential. We're thrilled to have him with us." The Sebring race will be the first for the new BAM! team, which is based in Stuart, Fla. "I know the drivers and some guys from the team, and that's important. It's easier than driving with a completely new team because I know the people," he said. "In Atlanta, everything was new. But now it's like when I drive a Carrera Cup race. The [Sebring] track is still new, but I know driver changing, talking on the radio and everything, and I'm not that nervous. I can focus more on driving. It was such a great experience and a lot of fun in Atlanta, so it should be even better at Sebring." Rockenfeller, 20, is starting his third season as a member of the UPS Porsche Junior Team, competing in the German Porsche Carrera Cup and in selected Porsche Michelin Supercup and American Le Mans Series races. He last drove with Hindery and Baron in the 2003 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, his first endurance race and his first race in North America. He is looking forward to driving with them again. "Mike Rockenfeller is a wonderful young man. It is a privilege to race with him, and he will certainly be one of the next great Porsche factory drivers," Hindery said. BAM! (British American Motorsport) has confirmed the participation of up-and-coming Porsche factory driver Mike Rockenfeller for the 2004 American Le Mans Series season opener, the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. Rockenfeller, of Neuwied, Germany, will drive the No. 43 YES Network Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with Leo Hindery of New York and Peter Baron of Deerfield Beach, Fla.
