Former British Formula Ford front-runner Brian Saunders is to contest the first three rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. His opening race in the category will be the F1 support race at Sepang on 21 March.
Saunders, who was a rising star of FF1600 in the early 1990s, has not raced regularly for nearly a decade, but is now aiming at a career in sports and GT racing. He will return to Sepang to contest the second and third races in May. "I haven't got a budget for a full season, so I'll just do the first three and see how we get on," he says.
Saunders is funding the three races privately, but is keen to continue in the championship. "I just need to get the ball rolling," he admits. "It's a question of rebuilding my career. I'd love to do races like Daytona and Le Mans ultimately."
