Trident has positive Budapest GP3 test

The GP3 Series held a session of collective testing at the Hungaroring in Budapest to prepare for a very demanding stint for teams and drivers including three rounds in four weeks starting. Next weekend, on June 15th and 16th, the series will be on-track at the permanent course of Valencia before moving to Silverstone (June 29th and 30th) and the Nurburgring (July 6th and 7th).

The test in Hungary enabled the team to keep working and improving their chemistry with the new car, used for the first time this season on a medium-slow track. Unfortunately, the alternating weather conditioned played a role in carrying-on the scheduled activity. In the two days, the asphalt went from dry to wet and prevented to complete the job aimed at the round in Budapest.

In terms of the standings, David Fumanelli completed his run without improving the laptime set early in the first morning while Gianni Venturini ended up the last PM session in third place. Emanuele Zonzini saw his chances to enter the top-10 due to traffic issues but, on the other hand, in stable conditions the feedback the team had on-track made everybody confident for the next few outings.

The team's work focused on improving the tire management in race conditions and the staff collected a lot of data. The long runs were particularly good even with the wet track while all the attempt were made on older tires.

Giovanni Venturini

I'm sorry not to have turned the speed potential in a complete flying lap reflecting the work done, but apart from that I'm satisfied with the feeling I had in every race condition. In the last morning I stayed in third for long, then when the asphalt got drier, I progressively lost positions. In the afternoon, I stayed into the top-3 even though it stayed dry only for a while. I can't wait to be at Valencia, where I hope to have a smooth weekend. I think we have all what it takes to aim for a great result..

David Fumanelli

For two days, it's been a true rollercoaster in terms of the conditions and that made really difficult to plan the work. It's not easy to go beyond the charts that emerged in this test, but from my point of view I'm satisfied with the work me and the team made. In the last morning I held the second lap for quite some, time then we started a race simulation on the wet. Right after that, the track started to get dry and I went out of the top-10 but there was no sense in reverting the set-up. On the wet, we had a positive feedback both on  single lap and long run basis, and I think we are in top-10 shape in any condition. We got some good outings, but we have to wait for Valencia to draw a balance.

Emanuele Zonzini

The test was conditioned by the weather, but despite these issues we collected some good feedback in dry and wet conditions. After the first session, I realized with the technicians that I needed to improve my speed in turn 4 and 11 and I focused to get a better knowledge of that part. I'm only a bit sorry not to have finalized my potential with a single quick lap which was in my frame. In the last AM session I was blocked by a slower car in the last sector and the telemetry data showed I lost almost half a second. Without that inconvenience, I would have been in the top-6 but, all in all, I'm confident for the next round in Valencia.
