Albatec Racing will take no further part in round four of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in Kouvola, after discovering a potentially destructive problem in the engine of Andy Scotts Peugeot 208.
After securing two fourth places in the opening heats, the fledgling team studied data last night and after discussion with its engine partner Oreca, agreed that to continue running this weekend could result in a terminal problem. The team therefore regrettably withdraws from this weekend to concentrate on continuing its development of the Albatec Peugeot 208 ahead of the next round in Norway.
Andy Scott, Team Principal and driver Albatec Racing #26 :
In co-operation with Oreca we tried a new development on the engine which we hoped would give us a performance advantage, but unfortunately its not worked out so the danger to continue today would be destruction of the engine.
As a driver of course I am personally very disappointed, as we came to Finland full of optimism and confident of having a good result, however as Albatec Racing Team Principal I have to look to the future and the long-term and consider the effects of running the car this weekend, and potentially doing any damage.
Marc Laboulle, Team Manager Albatec Racing :
It is regrettable that we must withdraw from running any further this weekend, however we must take into consideration the advice of our engine partner Oreca and in order to prevent any destruction to the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208s engine, we have decided to withdraw.
Naturally the Peugeot 208 is a brand new car, running many new technical developments, and whilst we are always keen to race, our priority must be to continue to develop the car for the long term interests of Albatec Racing and the Peugeot 208.
As part of our ongoing research and development, we work with all our technical partners to ensure our car is continually moving forwards, but this decision is the right one for the benefit of the whole team.
