WORKINGTON recorded their second 50-40 win of the weekend, taking maximum points from their Premier League fixture at Glasgow.Skipper Richard Lawson raced to a 15-point maximum for the Comets, and came within 0.1s of his own track record, whilst the Tigers injury problems continued when Harley Horwood was withdrawn after a Heat 6 crash.Workington boss Tony Jackson said: There are many positives to take from the weekend besides claiming all the league points on offer, with the form of Kyle Howarth and Ashley Morris being particularly pleasing. We have also welcomed Chris Mills back from injury while Richard has been in fantastic form.It was as good a maximum as you will ever see anywherehe looked a class apart and certainly led from the front as we gradually increased our lead as the meeting progressed. With all the other team members claiming vital points throughout it meant that we could maintain our good record at Ashfield and it has certainly got our busy spell of matches off to a winning start, which can only breed confidence within the team.

NEWCASTLE and Ipswich proved inseparable with a thrilling Brough Park contest on Sunday ending in a 45-45 draw. Both sides held a narrow lead at stages of the meeting but the scores were level going into the decider, with Witches No.1 Ben Barker overhauling Diamonds top-scorer Richie Worrall to win the race and force the draw with home man Stuart Robson getting the better of Rohan Tungate for third.Newcastle boss George English said: We said these Witches were no push-overs and so it was proved with a fantastic match between two great speedway teams with probably the fairest result at the end of the day.Ipswich co-promoter Chris Louis added: Ben was brilliant again - he rode like the No.1 that we signed him to be. Having said that, it was a great effort from all the boys and with the character shown tonight we can be a match for anyone. I was really pleased with the attitude of the whole team.

MILDENHALL took a 47-43 win at Buxton in the National Trophybut the Fen Tigers were frustrated in their bid to take all four points from the meeting.Stefan Nielsen won a shared Heat 15 to secure victory on the day for the visitors but partner Josh Bates was kept at the back meaning Mildenhall cannot overhaul leaders Isle of Wight in the overall table.Fen Tigers chairman Kevin Jolly said: Although we probably made heavy work of it, all the lads contributed and I have to be satisfied with the victory. Stefan was very impressive as was Dan (Halsey) and Josh who both continued from where they left off last week. There is certainly room for improvement though and we will be working on that with the team over the next few weeks. Jon (Armstrong) was under-power and is looking out for a new engine, and I know he is very grateful for the help he has been getting from people. We will take the positives and move on to the next meeting against Kent.
