STP celebrates anniversary with bid for victory with Murphy Prototypes
Forty years after winning the USAs epic Daytona 500, STP is bidding for honours in this years European endurance classic, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the iconic STP oval adorning the LMP2 Nissan V8-powered Oreca 03 of Irish team, Murphy Prototypes. The teams regular 2013 European Le Mans Series driver line-up of hotshot New Zealander, Brendon Hartley, and the greatly-experienced endurance sports car campaigner, Mark Patterson - who placed 2nd in LMP2 at the Petit Le Mans 2011 - is boosted at La Sarthe by former Lotus and Hispania F1 driver, Karun Chandhok. After their Nissan-Oreca ran at the head of the LMP2 field for five hours at last years 24 Hours of Le Mans and with Chandhok placed sixth overall last year, hopes are running high in the Irish team camp, which has its base in Brackley, Oxfordshire. Former racer and business entrepreneur Greg Murphy, owner of the team which has caught the fans imagination with their hashtag #murphysmen, commented: We are thrilled to be bringing the legendary STP name to Le Mans this year and carrying their iconic logo on the car. Lets hope we can add another great result to their superb racing heritage. Our front-running performances at the two ELMS rounds this year at Silverstone and Imola has shown we have the pace, and a great driver combination in Brendon and Mark, which is boosted still further with the addition of Karun Chandhok to the squad for Le Mans.
