Pirelli set for Ferrari Open and Formula Classic double header

Italian firm Pirelli will be trackside at Silverstone this coming weekend (15-16 June) to supply its racing tyres to crews competing in both the Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic and the Pirelli Ferrari Open.

Pirelli and Ferrari have enjoyed a long lasting partnership: the Pirelli P Zero range was first created to equip the legendary Ferrari F40 back in 1987 and earlier this year Pirelli announced it was supplying Ferraris latest creation, the highly-anticipated LaFerrari.

In 2013, Pirelli agreed terms to continue its support of the Ferrari Owners Club racing series by supplying all three of the club championships with Pirelli tyres.

The Ferrari Open features the latest models of Ferrari, including the 458 Italia, and Pirelli has supplied tyres to the seven-round championship since it began. The one-make series consists of four classes according to age and model, and all race on Pirelli control slicks.

The Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic, however, is aimed at cars built before 1990 including the 328, 308 and Mondial T. Consisting of 14 races at eight venues, it uses Pirellis Ultra High Performance road tyres with 225/45ZR17 P Zero Rosso fitted on the front and 245/40ZR17 P Zero Rosso on the rear.

The F430s Challenge that race in the Ferrari Challenge are fitted with 19-inch Pirelli P Zero tyres (235/645-19 at the front and 295/680-19 at the rear). In 2011, the 458 Challenge made its debut in the championship and Pirelli has developed slick and wet tyres in dedicated sizes, 255/650-19 at the front and 305/690-19 at the rear.

Pirelli Tyre UK Motorsport Operations Manager, Matthew Corby, commented: Pirelli supplies tyres to more than 20 different Ferrari models so its only fitting that we support the Ferrari Owners Club racing series. The Ferrari Open and Classic caters for every Ferrari that you see on the roads today and these spectacular cars are some of the finest you will witness in British racing. Silverstone always provides thrilling track action thanks to its high-speed, technical corners and the double header will be a real treat to watch.
