Porsche Carrera Cup GB heads north to Croft
Michael Meadows heads the title raceJonas Gelzinis, Dean Stoneman and Dan Lloyd lead the chaseVictor Jimenez tops Pro-Am1 packMichael Meadows will head north to Croft (22/23 June) with a newly-created advantage in the title race for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Rounds nine and 10 of the 20-race season will take competitors to North Yorkshire and Meadows is eager to consolidate the 23-point lead he established at Oulton Park.Four drivers have emerged as the major contenders for the overall title in the mighty 450bhp 911 GT3 Cup cars and now comes the annual visit to the challenge of Croft, which takes the schedule to the halfway point and the beginning of a six-week mid-season break. With five wins from eight races, including a commanding double last time out, Meadows (Samsung Smart Motorsport) is the man on top of the championship just now. Weve had four completely different circuits so far and Croft is another one, said Meadows. Last year there we were very quick, but I wasnt feeling so well and made a couple of mistakes. I didnt finish the second race and Rory Butcher was very quick. Hell be going there very confident, so I want to try and beat him.Despite a very mixed weekend at Oulton Park, Jonas Gelzinis (Juta Racing) is second in the points and badly wants to get his title bid back on track: he led the points before Oulton Park. Meanwhile, double winner at Brands Hatch Dean Stoneman (Redline Racing) is still seeking a return to that winning form and is being chased in the points by Thruxton winner Dan Lloyd (Team Parker Racing). For Huddersfield racer Lloyd, Croft is very much home ground and his recent pace suggests that the Carrera Cup Scholarship racer will be a major contender. It has been an up and down season so far for Rory Butcher (Celtic Speed) and the Scot would love nothing more than a re-run of 2012 when he won both Croft races in style. If he can recreate his Croft pace of a year ago, Rory should be the man to beat.In Pro-Am1, Redline Racing team mates Victor Jimenez and Dan De Zille are proving very evenly matched and spent much of the Oulton Park weekend locked in battle. Jimenez has the upperhand in the Pro-Am1 points as De Zille scored Pro points at Brands Hatch before switching to Pro-Am1.Set to challenge Jimenez and De Zille at Croft will be series returnee George Brewster (Celtic Speed) who makes a welcome return to the grid after missing Thruxton and Oulton Park. Meanwhile, the plans of Oulton Pro-Am1 winner Karl Leonard (Team Parker Racing) are uncertain and he may miss the Croft weekend before rejoining the series later in the season. After qualifying at 13.40 on Saturday (22 June), round nine of the Carrera Cup GB will start at 16.50. Round ten will start at 13.20 on Sunday (23 June) and will be broadcast live on ITV4.
