Sukup 100 will play role in title chase

Firestone Indy Lights takes on its third oval in a row, this time a race under the lights at Iowa Speedway for the Sukup 100. Carlos Munoz has won two races and leads the standings over Milwaukee winner Sage Karam by 18 points. Gabby Chaves (-26 points), Peter Dempsey (-39 points) and Jack Hawksworth (-51 points) are still in the hunt for the title in the sixth of 12 races. Will Iowa play a role in the race for the Firestone Firehawk Cup?

Undefeated in Iowa

Rising American standout Sage Karam captured his first Firestone Indy Lights victory at the Milwaukee Mile June 15. He aims for his second win at Iowa Speedway where he has three wins in three Mazda Road to Indy starts. The 18-year-old native of Nazareth, Pa., grew up across the street from racing legend Michael Andretti and won the USF2000 race at Iowa in 2010 and Star Mazda races at the track in 2011 and 2012 for Andretti Autosport. Now a driver for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, can Karam keep up his Iowa win streak in Firestone Indy Lights?

Munoz chasing Firestone Indy Lights title

Andretti Autosport's Carlos Munoz, who won the Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Award after finishing second, has been equally impressive in his second season in Firestone Indy Lights. The Colombian has won three poles and two races in five starts. Can he continue his strong start on the series' shortest oval at Iowa?

Veach searches for first win at Iowa

Young American driver Zach Veach comes to Iowa in search of his first Firestone Indy Lights win after leading his first laps in the series at Milwaukee. The teenager from Stockdale, Ohio, is moving up the Mazda Road to Indy under the tutelage of Michael Andretti.

Can Schmidt Peterson Motorsports win at Iowa again?

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports with Curb-Agajanian has won four of the six previous Firestone Indy Lights races at Iowa with drivers Alex Lloyd (2007), Ana Beatriz (2009), Josef Newgarden (2011) and Esteban Guerrieri (2012). The team returns with three drivers Gabby Chaves, Jack Hawksworth and Sage Karam, who are all in the top five in points. Will one of those drivers keep up the team's success?

Irish driver prepares for Iowa debut

Firestone Freedom 100 winner Peter Dempsey will take on a new challenge this weekend. The Irish driver will visit the Newton, Iowa, track for the first time in hopes of remaining in contention for the Firestone Indy Lights title. Dempsey is one of five drivers - along with Gabby Chaves, Jack Hawksworth, Sage Karam and Zach Veach - who will compete in their first Firestone Indy Lights race on the .875-mile oval.

Race Notes:

This is the seventh Firestone Indy Lights race at Iowa. Alex Lloyd (2007) and Josef Newgarden (2011) won at Iowa and the Firestone Indy Lights title in the same season.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has won four of the six races at Iowa Speedway - Lloyd (2007), Ana Beatriz (2009), Newgarden (2011) and Esteban Guerrieri (2012). Panther Racing (Dillon Battistini 2008) and Bryan Herta Autosport (Sebastian Saavedra 2010) are the other teams to win at Iowa Speedway. Three drivers entered - Carlos Munoz, Juan Pablo Garcia and Jorge Goncalvez - have raced at Iowa Speedway in Firestone Indy Lights.
