Magnussen scored a pair of third place finishes at the previous round in Austria to reclaim his place at the top of the points standings and edge out a handy lead.
However, with 25 points on offer for each race win, the Dane is aware he must continue his ultra-consistent form to take the championship.
So far in 2013, Magnussen has claimed two wins, three seconds, three thirds and 10 point scoring finishes out of a possible 11 races for his French-based team, DAMS.
With 163 points to his credit, Magnussen’s 2013 season compares well to 2012 champion Robin Frijns who had only scored 131 points after the corresponding 11 races last year.
Magnussen will also be out to attone this year in Hungary. After finishing second in the Saturday race, he dominated the action on Sunday only to suffer a gearbox issue on the final lap of the race while leading.
The event at the home of the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix features both World Series by Renault and European Le Mans Series action this weekend.
World Series by Renault from Hungary will be broadcast on Eurosport. Check local guides for details.
