Arthur Pic is targeting a season’s best performance in front of his home supporters this weekend (September 28/29) when the Formula Renault 3.5 Series travels to French circuit Paul Ricard. AV Formula driver Pic has displayed front-running pace throughout the 2013 campaign, regularly showing well during both qualifying and races in what is acknowledged as the most competitive Formula 1 feeder series. However a mixture of bad luck and circumstance has seen the Frenchman record fewer top results than his performances have merited, making him all the more determined to produce a perfect weekend on home soil.“It's really important for us to deliver a good performance at Paul Ricard as up to this point we've been very competitive in the races but not scored the points we deserve,” explained Pic. “Now we need to put everything together in the final two rounds, particularly here in France with my home supporters watching. I like the Paul Ricard circuit, especially in dry conditions, so hopefully the rain will hold off this weekend.”But come rain or shine Pic is heading into his home event targeting very strong results, and will count on the support of his French supporters as he bids to mount the podium once more.“It's always special to race in your own country,” said Pic, a native of Montélimar in France’s Rhône-Alpes region. “It gives you an extra motivation boost to perform and my target here is to take two podium finishes. Ideally, I'd like to score my first win of the season on home soil as well.”The 21-year-old has set himself ambitious targets, but Pic knows it is important to show strongly both in France and during next month's season finale at Circuit de Catalunya as he looks to continue his climb towards Formula 1.“It's really important that we finish the season with a flourish,” he emphasised. “I want to demonstrate that we have the pace to fight with the best drivers in the series as this will help create opportunities for 2014. Over the final two rounds I'd like to accumulate a lot of points and, if all goes well, break into the top five of the championship.”Pic was also keen to highlight the progress his new AV Formula squad has made since joining the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for the 2013 season. Headed by former racer Adrian Valles and highly-respected technical chief Philippe Gautheron, the Spanish outfit secured a podium finish at only their second event of the season thanks to Pic’s charge to third at Motorland Aragon. “The team gets better and better with each race,” explained Pic. “At the moment we're still learning, but with them behind me I'm confident for the final rounds of the championship.”And as he prepares to compete at a former French Grand Prix venue, the youngster has suggested that the time has come for the pinnacle of motorsport to return to his country.“We have four French drivers in Formula 1, including my brother Charles, so I believe it's important that we have a grand prix in our country once more,” Pic commented. “I think that bringing it back to France can help the sport grown even further here.”But when he arrives at Paul Ricard for this weekend’s contest Pic will be focussed solely on his own racing exploits. The youngster has set his sights high, but with the support of the crowd behind him and the AV Formula squad showing better with each event Pic has every right to feel confident of a strong points haul.Weekend Schedule (local times)SaturdayQualifying 1: 08.55 - 09.25Race 1: 13.35 (44 minutes + 1 lap)SundayQualifying 2: 11.00 - 11.30Race 2: 15.30 (44 minutes + 1 lap)
