Liuzzi and Morbidelli share SUPERSTARS wins at Imola‏

AUDI DUO OF SCHOFFLER/KRISTOFFERSSON DOMINATE GTSPRINT RACES

The Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari at Imola hosted the penultimate round of the 2013 SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES.

Tough weather condition impacted the results although they did not stop 10.500 cheering fans from supporting the teams and drivers from the grandstands and paddock. While the Mercedes C63 AMG racecars dominated the field Saturday with Luigi Ferrara (R.R.T.) clocking the pole in front of same-powered Vitantonio Liuzzi and Thomas Biagi (Romeo Ferraris Mercedes-AMG) and Andrea Bacci (Caal Racing), yesterday it was the rainy weather to give a hand to Gianni Morbidelli and his Audi Sport Italia RS5.

After finishing Race 1 in second behind Liuzzi, he fought his way to a powerful Race 2 win that, combined with the tough luck suffered from Biagi, propelled him to a solitary lead with 212 points. Liuzzi ended up as a runner-up in the afternoon and delivered an extremely solid overall performance. While the two former F.1 drivers shared the honours, Biagi had to cope with a tough break at his home racetrack. In Race 1, he went spinning and into the gravel while fighting with Morbidelli, scoring no points, after starting from the back of the pack in Race 1, he settled for seventh. He is now 33 points off the Audi racer with 45 still up for grabs at Vallelunga. The race at Imola was also a points-paying ones for the ITALIAN SUPERSTARS CHAMPIONSHIP, where Liuzzi retained the lead with 109 points, 4 more than Morbidelli.

In GTSPRINT, the Audi MTM duo of Thomas Schöffler and Johan Kristoffersson, driving Audi R8 LMS, cruised to a spectacular double win. The young German has managed to increase his points toll to 201. Double third-place finisher Glauco Solieri, on the Autorlando-prepared Porsche 997, is now 27 points back. Running at the end behind the Audi in both occasions was Team Ukraine, with Andrii Kruglyk and Raffaele Giammaria sharing a Ferrari 458 Italia. The GTS Cup Trophy honours were shared by Stefano Pezzucchi and Livio Selva, who won Race 1, and by Sebastien Fortuna who won in Race 2.

The next round for the SUPERSTARSWORLD will be taking place in two weeks, on October 12th and 13th, at Vallelunga near Rome.
