Simon Deacon heads into the final round of the Lotus Cup UK SuperSport championship with a leadof just seven points over Jamie Stanley, however with 51 points on offer the top 15 drivers remain inmathematical contention for overall honours.
Championship rules demand that all drivers must drop the lowest scoring round from their total,however the top seven have all failed to add to their total at least once this season. With 19 pointsseparating them, there is everything to play for at Snetterton on 26/27 October.
Third place at Donington was enough to keep Deacon at the top of the standings after his closestrival finished further down the order, but Stanley was able to score highly in the Exige Cup class.Meanwhile his rival lost out to fellow 2-Eleven runners Steve Train and Ken Savage, who finished 1-2after a thrilling battle that lasted throughout the hour-long race. All four drivers now top the standings.Erstwhile championship leaders Jeff Mileham and Stephen Guglielmi are 18 points off the lead after astrong finish, whilst troubles late on stymied Rob Fenn’s championship charge, leaving him a furtherpoint adrift. Exige Cup runners Phil Capstick and Matt Bartlett are next, followed by David Harvey.
Five drivers retain a chance of the Production championship after both Andy Napier and StuartPlotnek endured troubles at Donington. Napier’s finish has actually extended his lead, now overAndrew Wright, to ten points. Unlike the top two Plotnek will be able to drop his non-score, howeverwhilst his deficit to the leader is 25 points, Napier’s worst score is just 16. Penultimate round winnerAdam Gore is 30 points in arrears, 17 ahead of Jon LaMaster.The 120-minute race at Snetterton will see all drivers who complete the first hour scoringchampionship points according to their position at the time, with a bonus 15 points awarded to allfinishers. This should ensure that the championships will go down to the wire!
Snetterton also hosts the final Elise Trophy rounds of the season. At Donington Andrew Bentleycapitalised on a clash between Luigi Mazza and Gore to win the opening encounter, in which Mazzatook second and Dave Carr third. Gore got his revenge later on, winning from the reversed top tenstart to defeat Mazza and Bentley.
