Local V8 Ute driver attempts Guinness World Record for Charity

V8 Ute Driver Cam “Jobs On” Wilson will take to a different type of track next Tuesday 5th November, as he attempts a Guinness World Record, driving solo around his Go Karting Brisbane indoor centre for 24 hours straight all to raise awareness and funds for Huntington’s Disease, a hereditary disease his father was diagnosed with recently.

Wilson is recovering from a massive hit he received at the Gold Coast 600 on the weekend, when he was an innocent bystander in a three car pile-up at the back chicane in Race 3 of the 2013 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series – protected by ARMOR ALL but is still eager to go forward.

“My injuries will compromise my attempt but I’m determined to fight through it”, said Wilson.

The event will be carefully monitored by officials, cameras and data as Wilson must complete over 3000 laps to beat the current record of 503km for Karting – Greatest distance travelled in 24 hours indoors (individual).

The Go Karting Brisbane track will be closed for karting sessions for 24 hours from 12 noon Tuesday 5th November; however, the public are encouraged to attend the centre during that time to watch and support Wilson during his Guinness World Record attempt.

All money raised and sales made at the centre on Wednesday 6th November will be donated to the Huntington’s Association of Queensland.

Huntington’s Disease (HD) affects 5-7 people per 100,000 annually and symptoms don’t become evident until around 35-40 years of age in both females and males.

It is a neurological, hereditary genetic disorder that affects one’s ability to talk, think and move, leading to cognitive decline and psychiatric problems.

“My father has Huntington’s and it has been a shocking thing to watch it take over his body and mind”, said Wilson, owner of both the Brisbane and Gold Coast indoor go karting centres.

Wilson’s goal is to raise awareness and $48,000 in funds for HD but it won’t come easily.

Some members of the public have already expressed their support for Cam “Job’s On” Wilson, who is renowned for ‘getting the job done’ after winning race 2 on his V8 Ute debut last year at the Gold Coast 600.

A member of Performance Forums online said, “I can’t imagine how terrible it would be to do 24 hours solo on that tiny track. Best of luck.”

Wilson, who raced go karts growing up, has been involved with the karting industry since the 1980s and is confident that his Sodi RX7 karts and indoor track are an ideal combination for the feat.

Go Karting Brisbane is located at 870 Kingsford Smith Drive, Eagle Farm and welcomes the public to attend the charity event from 10am for go karting, raffles, sausage sizzle and an auction of parts from Wilson’s wrecked Ford FG Falcon ute.
