Following extended discussions with teams and drivers, Porsche Cars GB has confirmed that the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB will not run in 2014. The GT3 Cup Challenge GB was created to offer a stepping stone for drivers aiming to graduate to the Carrera Cup GB and mirrored similar series organised in a number of countries. It also provided a viable place for former Carrera Cup cars to race. The series has been successful in introducing a number of new drivers into Porsche motor sport and at least two of the leading GT3 Cup Challenge contenders from 2013 are now finalising plans to step up to the Carrera Cup GB in 2014.“This is not a decision we have taken lightly,” said Marion Barnaby Motor Sport manager at Porsche Cars GB. “However, we are now concentrating on new projects for 2014 with the introduction of the new 991-model 911 GT3 Cup into the Carrera Cup GB and the very high-profile support race at the Le Mans 24-hours.”Porsche Cars GB has confirmed that it will be honouring its promise to allow previously championship-registered 911 GT3 Cup cars and drivers to compete in the Le Mans 24-hours support race in 2014.
