Round 7: JLT Tempest 2 Rally, 2 November

Shaun Bannister and Paul Williams were the top championship crew on the JLT Tempest 2 Rally, securing maximum points in Class E3.

The event was a chance for Julian Wilkes, already the the 2013 champion, to compete with his father David in the co-driver’s seat; they were on the pace but it all went wrong on the slippery Ash stage, resulting in Julian’s first retirement for more than two years.

It was an even earlier finish for championship runners-up Robert Smith and Jonathan Boucard, who suffered a blown engine on the first stage. Likewise Thomas Lloyd and Craig Maggs were hoping for a good result but they were unfortunate to retire on stage four with a broken driveshaft.

Final championship standings1 Julian Wilkes – 125 points (CHAMPION)2 Robert Smith – 112 3 Roger Priestnall – 107 4 Peter Smith – 105 5 Robert Dennis – 103
