Statement from V8 Ute driver Cam Wilson on the Go Karting World Record attempt

Gold Coast & Brisbane Go Karting Owner Cam Wilson was to make a World record attempt today but due to injuries sustained from an accident he was involved in, in a V8 Ute Race at the Gold Coast 600 Sunday, 27th October he has been forced to postpone the event. “It is with much regret (and severe pain) that I wish to advise that due to the onset of injuries I have sustained from my crash at the GC600 that I have been advised that trying this GWR attempt next week is borderline suicide... We are now planning on rescheduling this attempt for February 4/5 2014.My body needs rest. I have been advised to not even drive or passenger in any motor vehicle let alone drive a Go Kart... I awoke yesterday in severe pain all over and went as planned to receive another massage, within 5 minutes of this I was escorted immediately to my doctor who then arranged x-rays of my body. This in turn exposed damage to my T7, T8 and Pelvis along with a raft of other issues I now have including my groin and left 'hanger'. My entire body now feels like I have been run over by a truck, I have bruises now all down my spine, across my chest and in other areas I do not wish to discuss. I am scheduled for an MRI amongst other things again this evening.I first reported I was ok apart from the groin region and had also stated that I pulled 6G in this incident - it has now been confirmed that at 6G is when the sensor that reads this broke, meaning we will never know exactly how large the hit was, but it is safe to say it could be 3 times + this amount. If I could change 1 thing from that crash it would be that I stayed in my car and didn't attempt to get out, but I was just very happy to be alive as at the moment .005 before impact I thought I was a goner... I am truly grateful for all those who have supported me and in particular who were assisting their time with the running of the GWR attempt and who have donated or were donating to Huntington's Disease for my cause. I will not let you down and will smash this record as planned in early February once my body is back to the condition it was.The last thing I want to do is struggle to even finish the 24hr let alone come up short on our goals... I'm sure most will well understand and appreciate why this has come about... for anyone who has not seen the in-car footage of this incident get onto Youtube and search "Cam Wilson V8 Ute Crash" and see the 20 seconds of film from inside my car that has gone viral. Finally, thanks to all who have supported myself and our Karting facilities, I would appreciate some time out for the next week so for anyone sending messages via facebook and the like to my page direct it may be a week or so before I can get back to you,” said Wilson.
