Papanastasiou Makes Racing Return With Hillspeed In BRDC F4

Dimitris Papanastasiou will make a return to competitive action for the first time in four years at Snetterton 300 Circuit in East Anglia this weekend, 9th/10th November, after joining leading BRDC Formula 4 Championship team Hillspeed for the category’s eight-round Winter Series.Partnering fellow F4 rookie Jake Cook at the Derbyshire squad, the 30-year-old Greek driver from London is looking forward to racing with the team and relishing the prospect of being back on track competitively for the first time since 2009.“I’m very excited to be racing in the BRDC F4 Winter Championship with Hillspeed”, commented Papanastasiou, “It’s a front-running team with a rich history and many championship successes and I am really looking forward to working with them.“With Jonathan Palmer involved I know it’s a high level series, as I found out with Formula Palmer Audi, and the [F4] car is fantastic to drive – it has the latest technology and handles very well. The grid is sure to be very strong with really close racing and I can’t wait to get involved. I’d be delighted if I’m running inside the top five but if I can be running in the top half of the field, I’ll be happy.”Papanastasiou made his car racing debut in the 2008 Formula Palmer Audi Autumn Trophy, ending the campaign ninth overall with a best race result of ninth place at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. The following year he contested nine races in the main FPA Championship but has since been on the racing sidelines.“Dimitris liked what we could provide as a team and he has experience with the F4 car having completed some decent testing”, said Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “With Jake’s speed, and Dimitris hopefully carrying over his consistency from his FPA campaigns, we are looking forward to a strong winter campaign.“We are still exploring options to hopefully run a third car at the Brands Hatch round [which takes place on 23rd/24th November] and we’d welcome further enquiries from interested drivers, both for that and for the 2014 season.”Qualifying for the opening two rounds of the BRDC Formula 4 Winter Series will take place at 09.00 on Saturday, 9th November, with the races scheduled to follow at 11.00 and 14.25. On Sunday, 10th November, round three and four qualifying will get underway at 09.25 with race action timetabled for 11.40 and 14.20.
