Isaac Tutumlu moves closer to Spanish Iber GT title‏

After the first race of the Spanish Iber GT championship this weekend Tutumlu, a Spanish driver of Kurdish ancestry, moved to within five points of the title.

Despite not finishing on the podium, the Barzani Racing Team driver put in a superb performance in the International GT Open. In the morning his teammate Dimitris Deverikos finished 19th in Q1 behind the wheel of the Autorlando Sport Porsche 997 GT3 R racing under the Barzani Racing Team banner.

Later in race one, consisting of 70 minutes, Deverikos completed a good opening stint before Tutumlu took over. As always Tutumlu impressed, racing from 18th he finished sixth in the Iberian classification and 8th in the Int´l GT Open.

“Qualifying sessions were quite difficult, due to traffic on track. But anyway Dimitris was fast considering today´s circumstances. He made no mistakes at the beginning and I took over always trying my best. I was faster than the cars finishing on the podium, but I was too far away by then, so our possibilities to catch them were remote”, Tutumlu said, also underlining that “I´ve felt great battling with Aston Martin, Audi or Lamborghini cars, or even some Ferraris, despite they are pretty fast at this stage. I was angry with a Russian SMP Racing driver, his driving maneuvers were quite dangerous, not just with me but with almost everyone. I hope measures will be adopted as this kind of behavior should not be allowed on a racing track.

Now, I'm completely focused on race two and I only have an aim in sights: the Iberian title”.
