Speedway, Tai set for big homecoming

HOT property Tai Woffinden, who has attracted massive media interest since his World Speedway title glory, is preparing for a celebratory homecoming this weekend.

Woffinden will be on stage at the Redbourn Social Club in Scunthorpe on Sunday at 8pm for a special ‘Evening with Tai Woffinden’.The event follows the massive success of his Wolverhampton event at the Cleveland Arms when 300 fans packed into the venue last Thursday. And he said: “I was knocked out by the welcome I received in Wolverhampton and I want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was a great night.

“I’m sure we will have a great night in Scunthorpe. I was born here and I’m proud of that fact, I’m proud of the childhood my parents provided for me in Australia and I’m proud to be back in Scunthorpe again now.

“It means so much for me to represent Scunthorpe Speedway in the early stages of my career and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of their supporters on Sunday night.

“At Wolverhampton I was on stage with Nigel Pearson (TV and Radio broadcaster) for an hour and a half and I was happy to talk about anything. The same will apply at the Redbourn Club on Sunday night.”

Fans are urged to arrive early as admission is on the door priced £10 to include a souvenir full colour brochure marking his title glory.

The room is 300-capacity and tokens will be issued to the first 300 people who arrive to gain entry when the doors open at 7pm.

“I hope nobody is disappointed, I really do,” said Woffinden. “I’ve got friends and family who will be there and it will be good to see everyone.

“I haven’t stopped since I won the world title and I need to get this weekend out of the way and start focussing on next year and my plans for the defence of the title. I know I will be a marked man.”Woffinden will be at Scunthorpe Speedway on Monday to hand over a cheque to Cancer Research UK for over £35,000 – and the public are welcome to attend.

The presentation will take place at 3pm and Woffinden has confirmed he is already planning a new fund raiser for 2014.
