ADD Motorsports driver Oli Norris is aiming to finish the season on a high after a podium in his penultimate race of the season, he put on a powerful performance to finish third in the Italian Industrial Trophy in Lonato.
And with just the World Karting Championship decider in Bahrain left to go, he wants to put on an equally commanding performance to finish the season in the best possible shape.
He said: “It will be great to finish Bahrain in good form. It was really good this week and my first podium for a while.“But we’d like to finish the season on a high and then keep improving next season.“We have missed one race of each championship this season, from injury or for different reasons, so I haven’t finished as high as I would have liked.“But another good performance next week will set us up nicely for next year.”
Oli was third until the last lap in qualifying, when he was overtaken and finished fifth. He started fourth in Heat 1 and in a close race did well to hold off the driver behind him and push the leader to the very end, to finish second.Heat 2 began with Oli’s valve not opening properly and he struggled to pick up speed and lost a few positions – until he was pushed hard from behind and it opened up again, allowing him to pick up some speed again and finish fourth.Oli started the pre-final in third and after a brilliant start got into second. But he wasn’t quick enough to hold on and finished fourth. The 16-year-old began the final in fourth place and by the seventh lap he had taken second. With two laps to go he was overtaken and defended the last corner brilliantly to keep third and claim his deserved place on the podium. He added: “It was a really good weekend and I felt good. Now I’m looking forward to Bahrain and seeing where I can end up.”
