Falcon swoops on Spain for Formula Ford young Driver Tests

Five-day test programme organised by top EcoBoost Formula Ford team Falcon MotorsportGuadix circuit to be the venue for Sampler Day follow-up assessments15 November, 2013 - Formula Ford squad Falcon Motorsport is to stage a week-long young driver assessment in southern Spain next month in preparation for its three-car assault on the 2014 Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.

The Oxfordshire team is taking over the Guadix circuit for five full days from 2 December, and reports strong interest from drivers who gained their first taste of the EcoBoost Formula Ford at this week’s Formula Ford Sampler Day at Rockingham. It is one of a number of test events being planned by Formula Ford teams following on from the success of the Sampler Day.

“We have visited the circuit several times before at this time of the year,” said Falcon boss Nick Streatfield, “and we are pleased to be repeating the programme now with Formula Ford. The plan is to test a number of drivers and to use the time to evaluate all the drivers who are potentials for us for next year, and then hopefully to conclude deals with them shortly after.

“What is encouraging is that two of the drivers who came to us on Sampler Day have already committed to going down to Spain with us; it’s a good follow-up and a justification of the sampler day concept. We are still negotiating with a few more at the moment and by the end of next week we should have a better idea of who will be joining us at Guadix.”

Falcon touched down in the Formula Ford paddock at the start of the 2013 season and quickly found podium pace with its young charge Harrison Scott. The seventeen-year-old won the Scholarship class 13 times from 30 races on his way to the class title.

Falcon’s Spanish test further underscores the positive mood among teams planning to contest the EcoBoost Formula Ford series next season, says Ford Racing Manager Mike Norton: “The combination of the BTCC-supporting race dates, live TV coverage, stable regulations and proven powertrain/chassis combinations is fuelling interest in Formula Ford for next season, and the recent Sampler Day was a graphic demonstration of that optimism.”

Formula Ford 2014 will feature 30 races at 10 rounds alongside the biggest attraction in UK motorsport, the British Touring Car Championship. The championship will boast live coverage on ITV4, as well as bumper trackside spectator attendance, and boasts a £30,000 cash prize fund.
