Another win for Cammish as he claims Autosport award

Formula Ford champion Dan Cammish is named British Club Driver of the Year in the Autosport Awards

Formula Ford Champion Dan Cammish added yet another prize to his glittering collection yesterday when he was named British Club Driver of the Year at the Autosport Awards. Dan, 24, received the award from Lotus Formula 1 star Romain Grosjean.

Leeds-based Cammish broke all records during the 2013 Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain season, racking up 24 consecutive race victories at the wheel of his JTR EcoBoost Mygale on his way to the title.

He beat off stiff opposition for the Autosport prize: McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalists Jake Hughes and Chris Middlehurst were among the contenders, as were Clio Cup, Ginetta Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup champions Josh Files, Tom Ingram and Michael Meadows.

Dan vowed to return to the Autosport Awards stage as soon as possible: “I am going to work hard to be back here next year. I’d love to step up to touring cars next year: I have worked hard my whole career to have my shot and I think I’m worthy of it.”

Cammish’s name joins an impressive roster of recipients of the Autosport Club Driver award. Among the notables are Allan McNish, David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti, Andy Priaulx and Lewis Hamilton. Drivers with Formula Ford connections to have achieved the honour include Paul Warwick, Eddie Irvine, Coulthard, Warren Hughes and Scott Malvern, the 2011 Formula Ford Champion.

Formula Ford Championship Manager Sam Roach said: “Dan’s talent for winning appears to be unstoppable. The Autosport Club Driver of the Year Award is richly deserved, and the whole of the Formula Ford community sends its hearty congratulations.”

Matt Parry, whose single-seater career started in Formula Ford in 2011, was named the 25th winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award. The 19-year-old, who went on to win Formula Renault’s northern Europe series this season, wins £100,000 and a McLaren F1 test.
