The 2013 Trofeo Maserati season comes to a close in Abu Dhabi

The final act in the 2013 Maserati Trofeo MC World Series will be staged this week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The sixth round in the series, held on the Formula 1 circuit, will see all the titles in Maserati’s single-make series handed out.

Out-and-out favourite is Renaud Kuppens who could record a one-two after his 2012 success. The Belgian sits on 229 points and seems out of reach with second-placed Mikkel Mac, from Denmark, 52 points off the pace. Having claimed the Trofeo Europa (for leading after the European rounds) and the Pole Position prize (thanks to his six best times recorded during the season), Kuppens could also pocket the Pirelli Team Cup. As things stand, he has a share of the lead with Konvex Motorsport’s Daniel Wazsczinski, on 399 points, followed by Swiss Team on 380.

In the Pirelli Drivers Cup, going for top spot is Mikkel Mac (213 points) and the Italian crew of Alberto Simoni and Riccardo Ragazzi (188), who will be out to defend the title won in 2012.

The three Maserati Trofeo races will be run on Thursday and Friday, with the final endurance event held during the break in the Abu Dhabi 12-Hour.

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo will be making a return to the circuit that staged the Trofeo Maserati JBF RAK events in 2011-12; the series was disputed on tracks in the Middle East with Lebanon’s Joe Ghanem eventually triumphing.

The Yas Marina circuit also played host to four Maserati MC12s in the first round of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship. In the end, Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini were crowned world champions.
