British racing driver Sean Walkinshaw will graduate into the top tier of the European Formula 3 Open in 2014, after signing a deal with leading squad Campos Racing to pilot a latest generation Dallara F312.Chipping Norton-based Sean, who made his full season Formula 3 debut in the Euro F3 Open this year in the ‘Copa Class’ where he achieved two podium finishes, is the first driver confirmed at the eponymous outfit of ex-Formula One World Championship racer and team owner Adrian Campos.Having enjoyed a series of highly successful winter tests with the squad over recent weeks at Albacete, Portimao, Jerez, Barcelona and the team’s ‘home’ track in Valencia, 20-year-old Sean is relishing his first season at the wheel of a Dallara F312 and confident of making major strides with the former Euro F3 Open title winners.“It’s fantastic we’ve been able to put a deal together with Adrian [Campos] and I can’t wait to get back out there in the car testing, up to now everything has gone really well”, said the Oxfordshire racer, “My driving definitely improved this year and the only logical step was to move up from the Copa Class and into the main championship for 2014.“Campos has enjoyed a lot of success in Formula 3, as well as in GP2 and other categories, and the team has a lot of experience to draw on from the highest level. Like any new season, it’s going to be a big challenge but I’m confident we can have a strong year and make good progress.”Campos Racing owner Adrian Campos is equally delighted to have secured Sean’s signature for the 2014 Euro F3 Open season and, in view of the good work done during initial testing, the Spaniard has high hopes for the partnership going forward.“I would like to say how happy I am that Sean joins us at Campos Racing”, he said, “Our exhaustive work with him in the winter has been valuable. His indispensable assistance, together with our GP2 engineers, proved to be a fact as we were the fastest team on track in Barcelona.“Sean has impressed me with his professionalism and capacity of work, I am really delighted to have him on-board with the team and I’m sure he will be fighting in front at all of the races. He is the kind of driver who really becomes part of the team and he generates a lot of expectations in all of us.”After learning his craft in the ranks of Protyre Formula Renault in the UK in 2011 and 2012, Sean also gained experience in the JK Racing Series, InterSteps and the MRF Challenge.
