Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Josh Webster Q and A

Josh Webster will be the Scholarship driver in the 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, when the all-new type-991 911GT3 Cup is introduced into Britain’s fastest one-marque race championship. The 19-year-old from Stowmarket in Suffolk won the £160,000 prize, which is £80,000 per year towards his 2014 and 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB budgets. Webster, who has an extensive and successful background in single-seaters, raced in the 2013 GP3 Series but has now decided to switch to sports and GT racing and sees the Carrera Cup Scholarship as a perfect platform for the next stage of his racing career. One of Webster’s first official engagements for Porsche was at Autosport International at the NEC and it was a chance to reflect on his hopes and aspirations for the coming season. How has it been since you heard you had won the Scholarship?“I’m still buzzing and I’ve never been more motivated for a new season than I am now. It still hasn’t fully sunk in and I can’t wait to get out in the car. But March still seems a long way away!”What are you looking forward to the most?“To see the car in the flesh at Autosport International was fantastic and I just can’t wait to get in it. Rolling out of the pit lane for the first time in the new car is going to be a real highlight.”How are you preparing for the season?“I’ve started on the fitness programme with Porsche Human Performance at Silverstone and I’m there every week. Eliot Challifour is working me very hard! Eliot is probably the fittest guy I’ve ever met and I’m really grateful for their support and guidance. I’m doing some training to get ready for the heat in a closed-cockpit car, because that will be new to me.”What are your ambitions for 2014?“It’s all a new experience for me this year and what a way to start it with the new 991-model Carrera Cup car. I want to learn as much as I can and also start pushing for results. I’ve got a lot of support from my family and friends and my sponsors are really keen about the season.”Webster will shortly confirm details of his team for 2014 and continue preparations for the opening races of the Carrera Cup GB season at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March.
