Danish SGP named Motorsport Event of the Year Copenhagen

DANISH SGP & IVERSEN HONOURED

The 2013 Moldow Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix was voted Event of the Year by fans as the sport enjoyed a glorious night at the Danish Motorsport Awards in Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Danish champion Niels-Kristian Iversen was honoured for a sensational 2013 as he bagged both the Motorcyclist of the Year and Speedway Rider of the Year awards.

This comes on the back of the season of his life, which saw him claim World Championship bronze, retain his national championship and win the Italian and Scandinavian SGPs.

FIM director of speedway and legendary triple world champ Ole Olsen was also handed an honorary prize to recognise the impact his first World Final win in Gothenburg in 1971 had on the sport’s growth in Denmark.

BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy was delighted to see the PARKEN showcase recognised in the online vote and pledged to make the 2014 Danish SGP another night to remember on June 28.

He said: “It’s a great honour to have received this prestigious award, and especially one decided by the fans. It was brilliant to see Niels’ stunning season rewarded as well. It’s great news for speedway in Denmark and underlines how much interest the Danish people have in our great sport.

“We thank everyone who voted for us. The fans have made PARKEN one of the biggest nights on the FIM Speedway Grand Prix calendar and we can’t wait to see them again in Copenhagen on June 28.

“This year’s Danish SGP promises to be a special night as Danmark’s Motor Union celebrates its 100th anniversary. I’m sure we will see some great racing, befitting this huge landmark.”
