Protyre Formula Renault Championship competitors and teams will enjoy increased live television coverage in 2014 as well as an expanded 15-race schedule organisers have announced today, Monday, 27th January.
The fourth race meeting of the new season, which will take place at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk on 30th/31st August, will now become a triple-header event and will be broadcast as part of one of this year’s Motors TV Live Racedays on the popular ‘High Speed Television Channel’.
Offering a major boost, the addition of Motors TV coverage for the Saturday of the Snetterton weekend means Protyre Formula Renault racers will now have two chances to impress in front of a live television audience. The second, of course, comes on ITV4 during the season finale at Silverstone National Circuit where the category will support the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
“We really are thrilled Protyre Formula Renault will form part of the Motors TV Live Raceday at Snetterton, it’s a fantastic opportunity for our competitors and their sponsors to enjoy the rare treat of live television coverage”, said championship promoter Simon North.
“Everyone associated with the championship always looks forward to the BTCC support race and the accompanying ITV4 coverage each season, but the addition of the Motors TV broadcast really is a great boost. We’re equally delighted to confirm the calendar has increased to 15 rounds with the extra race added to the Snetterton weekend. We’re all set for a great season.”
Rockingham in Northamptonshire still hosts the opening three races of the season on 5th/6th April with Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire the venue for rounds four, five and six over the weekend 31st May/1st June.
From there, the championship travels to Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent for rounds seven and eight on 26th/27th July before the revised Snetterton event at the end of August where rounds nine, 10 and 11 will take place.
The season concludes with two double-header race meetings just one week apart, a trip to Croft in North Yorkshire on 20th/21st September followed by the crown jewel event – rounds 14 and 15 – at Silverstone National Circuit in Northamptonshire in support of the BTCC.
Jon Pettitt, team principal of double championship winning squad Scorpio Motorsport, is delighted with the addition of an extra race to the calendar and says the live television coverage at Snetterton is going to be welcomed by everyone.
“Having the live Motors TV coverage is good for the championship, it’s something very positive and is going to be popular with the drivers”, he commented, “Over the last few seasons we’ve seen a lot of foreign drivers competing in Protyre Formula Renault, the TV gives their sponsors and families a chance to see their racing and it also really raises the profile of the series.
“I’m really pleased to see an extra race added to the Snetterton weekend too, it’s good we’re back up to 15 rounds and there won’t be much in the way of additional cost as we’re already there. It’s certainly a positive move for the championship.”
Along with headline sponsor Protyre, Formula Renault is additionally supported by Michelin.
