New Formula One TV deal secured as testing begins

Setanta Sports Eurasia has reportedly agreed a two-year contract to broadcast the Formula One world championship.

The broadcaster is set to provide a Russian-language service of all Formula One sessions to a group of territories in eastern Europe and across central Asia, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Uzbekistan.

The new world championship season is scheduled to begin on 16th March with the Australian Grand Prix, the first event for a major new package of engine rules which will see cars fitted with highly-efficient 1.6 litre turbos.

Winter testing, featuring every team except Lotus which has delayed the launch of its new car until February, begins today at the Jerez circuit in the south of Spain.
