Matt Rao wins the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend Award

Matt Rao's strong performance at Rockingham carried on into the Silverstone races as the Fortec Motorsport driver won the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend Award after a third place finish in race three.

The award was a continuation of the improvement Rao has made race by race. Beginning at Rockingham, Rao finished the weekend after improving race by race.

Rao's qualifying at Rockingham in second suggested good things initially, but in the first race he was unable to finish. In race two, the reverse grid format saw Rao at the back and performed admirably to achieve fourth. Podium-less, Rao made up for his earlier two races by securing a victory and fastest lap in the final race.

It was a good way to end the Rockingham races, and the young Brit carried this form into the Silverstone weekend and once again improved race by race.

Qualifying was more of a struggle than Rockingham as it saw Rao qualify outside the top three. Rao was unable to reach the podium in race one after starting low down the grid but did securing a fifth place finish.

With the second grid giving Rao a boost with a pole start, car issues cost Rao as a loose wheel ended his race prematurely which was a cruel blow to an otherwise good drive.

While many drivers would find themselves disillusioned in such circumstances, Rao bounced back to secure third place and podium in the final race after a long battle with teammate Martin Cao at Silverstone.

Undeterred by car and race issues, Rao's attitude was instrumental in securing third place, and after a continuing theme of improvement from the six races so far, Rao was selected to win the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend Award ahead of the rest of the field to top off a good end to his Silverstone weekend.
